GOLDEN SUN, PLATINUM MARINA

SCROLL

my heritage

The history of Vilamoura Marina has been marked by innovations, expansions and modernisations that have consolidated it as a tourist and nautical reference in Portugal.

A NEVER-ENDING
COMMITMENT

Vilamoura Marina was the pioneer in Portugal and today it is still what it always was: the largest Marina in Portugal, voted the best, time after time, by the Publituris Portugal Trade Awards. These awards have only been possible because “our” Marina kept growing and developing, keeping step with the changing needs of clients and adapting in order to be able to respond to the growing demands of its users.

Additionally, at Vilamoura Marina, we have made a firm commitment to offer the highest standards of service and hospitality. The supply of clear and useful information is an important part of that service. We would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone, to wish everyone an excellent stay, and we trust that the winds will continue to blow in our favour.

OUTSTANDING STANDARDS FOR OUTSTANDING CLIENTS

Vilamoura Marina, was one of the first marinas to get certified for ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 Quality and Environment Certification, together with European certification Blue Flag for Marinas and 5 anchors distinction by the Yacht Harbor Association (TYHA).

In 2020, was elected for the eleventh consecutive year, the Best Portuguese Marina by Publituris Portugal Trade Awards. Won the international title “Marine of Distinction” for having received, consecutively, in the triennium of 2015-2017 the award of Best International Marina, awarded by the Yatch Harbor Association and elected for Best International Marina in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 also by TYHA.

Achieving this accreditation means achieving an extremely high evaluation score in all the criteria, namely space ambiance; planning; policies & procedures; Customer Service; environment; water facilities and infrastructure; and onshore facilities and infrastructure, with a rigorous auditing process that includes on-site assessments, compliance with local and regional regulations, member satisfaction surveys, concierge services, premium facilities and much more.

In 2023, Vilamoura Marina became the first Portuguese marina to receive the 5 Gold Anchor Platinum certification accredited by The Yacht Harbour Association, the industry’s highest honour from this oldest association.

ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATIONS

The Marina de Vilamoura, S.A. has an Environment and Quality Management System (SGQA) implemented and certified by Norms ISO 14001, since July 2002, and ISO 9001 since August 2004. This means that the Marina applies practices to monitor its activities in a rigorous way, with the aim of minimising its related environmental impact, and that it adopts procedures for the continual improvement of the services it provides and the satisfaction of its customers, and that these practices are internationally recognised.

The effectiveness of the SGQA is regularly put to test in internal audits and in periodical external checks by an appropriate body, duly accredited for the purpose, the SGS – ICS, in which the system is evaluated with the aim of guaranteeing that the work of the Vilamoura Marina is carried out in a way that meets the requirements of these two key norms. It should be stressed that this process of certification covers not only the management and work of the Vilamoura Marina but also the management of the Falésia Beach (Rocha Baixinha) and Vilamoura Beach (Marina Beach).

The certifications ISO 14001 (Environment) and ISO 9001 (Quality), together with the European Blue Flag for Marina’s and Recreational Harbours (awarded to the Vilamoura Marina since 2001) demonstrate the success of the policy adopted by the management of Vilamoura Marina, thus contributing to make Vilamoura a tourism destination that offers high standards of environmental quality to all its visitors.

Initiatives
Everyone Can Contribute
Environment

The success of all these initiatives depends on the collaboration of everyone who comes here. Vilamoura Marina makes a point of reminding those who arrive here, carried by the winds and the tides, as well as those who are already here, about the ways in which everyone can contribute to this cause.

Your help is essential if we are to continue to honour our commitment to preserving our natural heritage, so that we can continue to benefit from it!

The Algarve coastline deserves such care and attention. Its natural beauty, the different habitats and the countless species of wildlife are values that have to be preserved by everyone, especially by those who pursue nautical activities.

The policy of Marina de Vilamoura, S.A. concerning Quality and the Environment is founded on a commitment by the entire organisation towards conducting the management and operation of Vilamoura Marina, as well as Rocha Baixinha Beach (Falésia Beach) and Vilamoura Beach (Marina Beach), within the strictest environmental preservation demands, avoiding pollution and minimising any impacts on the environment.

You can download Vilamoura Marina’s Policy on Quality and the Environment here.

The Blue Flag for Marina’s and Recreational Harbours was awarded to Vilamoura Marina for the first time in 1988, and every year consecutively since 2001.

OUr INITIATIVES

Find out about some of the initiatives implemented by Vilamoura Marina as part of its commitment under the Policy on Quality and the Environment:

  • Monitoring of water quality and Waste management
  • Rational consumption of resources
  • Training and Qualifications
  • Environmental awareness-raising activities

Monitoring of Water Quality and Waste Management
The marina’s water quality is monitored monthly by an accredited laboratory.

The waste produced in all the operational areas of Vilamoura Marina is separated and sent to an appropriate final destination; priority is always given to re-using or recycling it rather than depositing it in a landfill site. Special attention is given to hazardous waste produced in the boatyard, during maintenance and repair work on the boats. Vilamoura Marina has the capacity to receive all types of hazardous waste, which is stored temporarily in a dedicated location until being handed over to bodies which are licensed to treat it. In addition, there are “ecoponto” recycling points in all parts of the marina where more common types of waste can be deposited.
One of the major concerns in the environmental management of Vilamoura Marina is to minimise consumption, especially of water and electricity. The objective is to optimise consumption, reducing it without affecting the users level of comfort. However, achieving this objective depends on the collaboration of everyone who comes to Vilamoura Marina. Find out here how you can embark on the route towards savings!

The concept of sustainability is integrated into all remodelling and upgrading projects and building work. Preference is given to materials with a low environmental impact, and the equipment to be installed is chosen in accordance with its energy efficiency and water consumption, thereby minimising consumption when it is being used.

The success of an environmental management system is only possible through the involvement of everyone, of those who work at the Marina and those who visit it. And so every year, a major investment is made in the training of the marina’s staff to ensure that they have the necessary qualifications and knowledge to do their jobs in the most appropriate way, in terms both of the quality of the service provided and the company’s environmental performance.

Special attention is given to the preparation of staff for emergency situations such as fires and spillages. For this purpose, they are given training on methods and techniques for prevention and ways of acting in emergencies; simulations are carried out to test the effectiveness of responses.

Prevention is the best advice. Always wear appropriate protective equipment when handling chemical products.

In the event of accidental spillage, there is specific material for combatting this in the boatyard and next to the fuel station. Inform the Marina Services about any occurrence!

EVERYONE CAN CONTRIBUTE

What to do with rubbish?

Separation is the keyword. For this, there are:

  • Recycling points on all the Marina’s quays, for paper / cardboard, plastic / metal packaging and glass;
  • Recycling points in the area around the Marina;
  • Containers for batteries in the surrounding area and the boatyard;
  • Fixed and mobile recycling points in the boatyard area for the most common kinds of waste;
  • Containers for wood, scrap metal and paper and cardboard in the boatyard;
  • Waste depot in the boatyard area for all types of hazardous waste – such waste must be handed over to the boatyard services.

The pump-out system is the answer. Waste and oily water must be pumped-out by this system which is located at the fuel quay.

Never discharge such water in the Marina. While you are in the Marina, do not use the toilet facilities of boats which do not have a holding tank. The bathrooms in the surrounding area are available for this purpose!
