Quinta Morgado, originally a 1600-hectare farm, is the birthplace of the Vilamoura Marina’s resort.
Its founder, Artur Cupertino de Miranda, envisioned a marina-centred resort on this land.
This vision came to fruition between the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The excavation in 1971 marked the beginning of Vilamoura Marina’s construction.

In 1974, the Marina welcome its first sailboat, the “Giralda” owned by His Royal Highness the Court of Barcelona

The first building around Vilamoura Marina were constructed in the late 1970s.
As the Marina expanded, so did Vilamoura, evolving into more than just a marina and becoming a major centre for tourism and private accommodation.
Today, Vilamoura boasts a wealth of internationally recognized recreational infrastructure, including five golf courses, an international college, tennis courts, fitness areas a sailing club, and conference facilities with capacities in the thousands. Enhancing the overall experience are various hotels, restaurants and bars.
